This blade is a boning knife made from L6 core cased by cable layers on outside. This was all hand hammered by Sam Wise starting with bulk 2X plowshare 2″dia cable into solid billet form which was then forge welded over a core of L6 steel. The aesthetic undulation of core steel is due to use of anvil fuller during drawing out of the laminated form.<\/p>\n
The blade is compound ground, flat at the back and convex on the face transitioning to a small secondary bevel in a right -handed configuration<\/p>\n
This blade was oil quenched to harden, then flame drawn to yellow temper before final grinding and acid bath etching to demonstrate pattern of \u00a0the \u00a0laminated blade.<\/p>\n
Intended as a boning knife, this blade is moderately stiff \u00a0with a full length edge.<\/p>\n
Please note the inlay design is my “old style” of three circles in one circle I used in knives made before December 2012.<\/p>\n
Incorporating a small brass guard diverges from the traditional Hankotsu unguarded profile so as to protect the operator from slipping up onto the blade and indexes hand relative to blade edge.<\/p>\n
As with all\u00a0Radius\u00a0Knives, the dorsal spine is smoothly radiused to protect operator from sharp edges. Only the Blade edge is sharp, the spine is safely configured with a smooth dorsal form and the polished brass guard is carefully made to avoid sharp edges.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n A complementary custom wooden saya is being fabricated to protect and complete this knife.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n\n\t\t
